How does one install an App like SuperDuper using VoiceOver?

Hi again,

I downloaded the SuperDuper app from the Shirt-Pocket website and of course
the file is a "dmg" file in my downloads folder.

I couldn't figure out how to install the program. I tried to do as the
SuperDuper "read me" suggested and drag the dmg file to the Applications
folder using command-comma and command-period but VoiceOver simply said the
file no longer had focus for the drag operation.

My sighted wife installed it for me, but I'd like to be able to do this for
myself in future.

How does one install a downloaded dmg file for an application using
VoiceOver?

Thanks.

Hi Stan,
Okay, DMG stands for disk image in this case. What you actually want to do is open the file, with command-o or voiceover-space. This will mount the virtual disk inside it, much as if you?d plugged in an external hard drive. What you'll end up with is a new icon on your desktop.
Open up this icon, which will have the same name as the Application most likely, and use command-c to copy the actual program inside it to the clipboard. You can then paste it with command-v in the Applications folder. This process applies for around 95% of Mac apps you download from the web. One advantage of the Mac app store is that it is no longer necessary.
Once you've copied the app, you can eject the disk by going to the desktop icon and hitting command-e.
I hope this helps clarify things. If you have any other questions, please ask.
Best,
Zack.
